At the event, the firm’s Tannochside team showcased packaging solutions specifically designed for the fish and seafood sector – combining product protection, thermal performance and supply chain efficiency with a clear focus on sustainability. Designed to replace traditional expanded polystyrene (EPS), Smurfit explained its packaging offers a fully recyclable, fibre-based alternative that is plastic-free, and engineered to perform in cold, wet environments.
Using water-resistant materials, integrated insulation, and optimised pack formats, its solutions help maintain product freshness throughout the supply chain, while also improving storage and transport efficiency, it added. The move away from EPS packaging also supports businesses looking to reduce plastic usage and meet increasing sustainability and regulatory pressures.
