Switching between label types

When you purchase a Makro Labelling machine, you can do so with the peace of mind that if your marketing department decide they want to change the label dress from wet glue to self adhesive, this can be achieved with minimal fuss and at low cost with no major capital investment. So says Richard Portman, managing director of Makro UK. “From the first machines Makro produced, the designers’ ideas were always to design and build machines with the customers own business in mind. Our customers were telling us that things change very quickly in the FMCG sectors, so they would be reluctant to purchase capital equipment that strapped them into one way of labelling their products and therefore restricting their opportunities at the point of sale.” So often there has been some friction between brand owner marketing departments and their production and engineering colleagues if packaging formats have to be changed. The cost implications of changes on the production lines can sometimes far outweigh the perceived or indeed achieved benefits that may ensue. Makro’s solution – of manufacturing its entire machine range with the capability to simply remove the wet-glue labelling station and interchange to a self-adhesive one – makes the decision easier, according to the company. One recent client wanted to change a wraparound neck label on the bottle and leave the other labels as they were, something that was achieved with no loss of downtime or need for capital investment.
