Glass manufacturer Beatson Clark welcomed a royal visitor to its plant in Rotherham, South Yorkshire at the beginning of September. HRH Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester KG GCVO, toured the factory to see £10 million of recent investments, including a new white flint (clear glass) furnace which became fully operational in August. The Duke had lunch with some of the company’s directors, signed the visitors’ book and unveiled a plaque to commemorate his visit before managing director Tony McLoughlin presented him with a special bottle of beer in one of Beatson Clark’s new lightweight amber beer bottles. The £5.4m furnace has a daily capacity of approximately 200 tonnes of glass and its improved design means greater efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions.
