METTLER-Toledo Product Inspection has expanded its x-ray portfolio in Europe with the reintroduction of the Eagle Product Inspection product line.
Eagle will operate as a dedicated product line and is positioned at the premium end of the inspection market. The portfolio is said to address applications requiring enhanced detection sensitivity, hygienic system design, and engineered-to-order configurations.
At the centre of the range is proprietary dual energy photon-counting detector technology PXT. Unlike conventional detectors, photon-counting measures individual x-ray photons with the aim of improving material discrimination and enhancing sensitivity in complex product environments. This, Mettler-Toledo explained, is particularly valuable in raw meat and poultry applications, where bone fragments and low-density contaminants can be difficult to distinguish from good product.
The European portfolio, which will be manufactured in Royston, UK, focuses on customised applications where inspection performance directly impacts yield, quality, and compliance. Mettler-Toledo added that customers can benefit from shorter lead times and reduced transportation costs.
In addition to high-sensitivity x-ray inspection, the range includes fat analysis systems for inline composition measurement. These systems allow processors to monitor fat-to-lean ratios in real-time. Selected packaged x-ray systems will also become available in Europe.
At interpack 2026, Mettler-Toledo will present the MAXIMIZER RMI in Europe for the first time. Developed primarily for deboned poultry inspection, the solution integrates Eagle RMI 400 x-ray technology with an automated material handling and reject management solution designed for high-throughput raw product environments. The system combines dual-lane inspection with structured reject review and rework processes.
“We are excited to have strengthened the capability of Mettler-Toledo in high-performance inspection,” said Chris Plant, head of market management, global sales at Mettler-Toledo Safeline X-ray. “We have added specialist photon-counting x-ray and raw material inspection technologies from Eagle Product Inspection that complement the existing portfolio. By bringing these technologies to Europe, processors gain broader choice, advanced detection performance and comprehensive support through one organisation.”
