A lot has happened since 1937. The second World War. The first man to walk on the moon. The invention of mobile phones and the internet. The first black president. Gangnam Style.
Gordian Strapping, a packaging solutions company in Basingstoke, were there to witness it all.
Founded over 85 years ago, Gordian Strapping are the UK’s leading supplier of strapping, wrapping and hooding machinery. With over 275 years of experience across their sales and engineering teams, they provide packaging solutions across a wide range of industries.
2022 was a successful year for Gordian, as the company continued to build sales of machinery, packaging and service engineering support across a wide range of market sectors.
Gordian are actually a division of the Japanese corporation, StraPack – the world’s leader in the manufacture of strapping machines. Innovative design and dedication to high quality have earned StraPack a reputation as one of the most respected and reliable manufacturers of strapping machines found in world markets and it’s this blend between functionality and elite performance that Gordian aim to adopt.
But don’t be fooled by the Gordian Strapping name. As well as strapping solutions, they provide a broad range of packaging options, with partnerships with some of the European market leaders for stretch wrapping and shrink hooding systems. This includes Italian trio OMS, PKG and Area Packaging.
So when it comes to packaging machines, you could say Gordian has it all wrapped up (or strapped or hooded!).
Alongside their machinery offerings, they boast the largest engineering team for a strapping company in the UK. With sixteen mobile service engineers stationed across the length and breadth of the UK, they are responsive to issues. Their service engineers carry most spare parts in their vehicles – giving them the flexibility to quickly provide the necessary repair service directly on site which gives their customers the extra peace of mind.
At their Basingstoke headquarters, they have a team of in-house engineers who make customisations to machines in order to fulfil specific packaging needs. Whether it’s a taller arch, slower application speed, they can tinker an existing machine to be tailored perfectly to a specific product.
The company saw major growth in the automated systems market last year, with some major high-output projects being entrusted to their machines throughout 2022 and into 2023. Including the likes of Pitreavie Packaging, West Fraser and Wren Kitchens.
The Gordian machines are installed on both production lines and as stand-alone solutions. They offer everything from a small economical banding machine, right the way up to transit systems capable of handling products of 1800kg in weight.
As a trusted name in the industry, Gordian serve businesses into the thousands, including some major players in Scotland. The fresh fish industry is one that Gordian pride themselves on, with their machines featuring in facilities for Mowi, Cooke Aquaculture and Dawnfresh. Gordian have a long-standing presence in Scotland and they’re pushing to grow even further in 2023.
