Aldi to trial clear milk caps

ALDI is to trial clear caps on its milk bottles in a bid to improve the recyclability of its products.

The move will see coloured caps scrapped, with the supermarket saying that the clear versions are easier to recycle.

The trial comes in partnership with Müller and will be introduced later this month across a number of stores.

Aldi said that, if it proves to be successful and is rolled out to all Müller-supplied stores, an additional 60 tonnes per year of recycled high-density polythene could be turned back into food-grade packaging, with the milk tops being used to create new milk bottles.

Richard Gorman, plastics and packaging director at Aldi, said, “We know it’s becoming increasingly important to our customers that their everyday products are environmentally-friendly, and we are constantly reviewing ways to become a more sustainable supermarket.

“By trialling clear milk caps we are making our milk bottles easier to recycle, so they can be turned back into new packaging.”
