The Fibre Bottle offers ‘tangible’ alternative to plastic

CULLEN Eco-Friendly Packaging used the recent Packaging Innovations exhibition in Birmingham to launch The Fibre Bottle, described as a lightweight bottle suitable for dry goods and solids.

Made from moulded fibre, the product is available in different sizes and colours. It is manufactured in the UK using recycled kraft paper and water, and can accommodate either a snap off or resealable closure.

Maureen Stevenson, head of marketing and business development at Cullen, told Packaging Scotland the product has been a couple of years in the making. “We’re a corrugate and moulded fibre manufacturer,” she explained. “The product’s made from the offcuts from our corrugate so it’s a completely 100% closed loop recycling facility that we’ve got.

“It’s made from paper and water, 100% plastic-free, and the good thing is that it’s actually available now. It’s completely natural so it biodegrades and it can go into the normal waste cycle and is completely recyclable. This is an actual, tangible alternative to plastic.”

Maureen said feedback from visitors to Packaging Innovations & Empack had been ‘outstanding’, with people excited to see a ‘real product and a real alternative’.

“I think what we’re seeing is people are really open to having a conversation about it and making it happen,” Maureen added. “That’s exactly what we’re looking for. We’re looking for partners to take this forward.

“We can design a solution that’s completely tailored to our clients’ needs. This bottle is designed for dry goods and solids. We’re working in the future for liquids as well. It’s exciting times for Cullen. There’s lots happening and we’re looking to grow.”
