ALDI has redesigned the packaging of its own label Easter eggs to eliminate the need for inner plastic packaging.

It will see the supermarket use cellulose film instead of plastic windows and card boxes in place of plastic blister packs, in a move which it says will remove an estimated 24 tonnes of plastic.

Richard Gorman, plastics and packaging director at Aldi UK, said, “We know that our customers are passionate about the environment, and these changes to our Easter range are a great example of how we are helping them eliminate unnecessary plastic.

“We’re committed to playing our part to protect the environment and its changes like this that can make all the difference.”
