PLASTIC pallets could help tackle supply chain challenges this Christmas. That’s the view of Goplasticpallets.com (GPP), in light of concerns over price rises and shortages of wooden pallets for shipping goods.
The company said the ‘backlog’ of Irish tree felling licences and struggle for Baltic log supply has put increasing pressure on UK sawmills. This, coupled with post-Brexit rules requiring that wooden pallets travelling between the UK and EU must be heat treated in accordance with ISPM15 regulations, has resulted in ‘severe shortages of the correctly treated wooden pallets and an almost 40% price hike in pallet timber’, GPP claimed.
