Weedon factory restructuring provides room for growth

WEEDON PSC, a manufacturer of Retail Ready Packaging (RRP) and Point of Sale (POS) units, has announced the completion of a “major restructuring” of its factory in Hednesford, Staffordshire.

Aimed at improving efficiency and increasing capacity, the works involved demolishing almost all of the walls between the firm’s 12 individual units to create a working space spanning 80,000 sq ft.

Weedon said the move will allow the business to reposition machinery and make room for new equipment including a new taping machine and additional conversion equipment.

The company is also taking the opportunity to upgrade its heating, lighting and insulation to improve the environmental impact of its factory.

Managing director John Weedon said, “Over the next six months, we will reposition all of our existing machinery and introduce new equipment. As a result, we will be able to support a large rise in output, especially in the area of eCommerce and retail ready corrugated packaging.

“Packaging for online retail is forecast to be one of the key growth areas of 2018 and, with our expertise in retailer requirements related to the RRP and POS display market and both graphic and structural design resource in i2i europe, to complement our manufacturing operation, the Weedon Group is ideally placed to meet growing customer demand in this area.

“By reorganising our workspace, we have both improved the efficiency of existing production and made space for new machinery to meet new challenges.”
