CHARPAK Ltd was named a highly commended runner up in the small business category at the Business Culture Awards 2017.
Feedback from judges was that the firm demonstrated a “wonderful story for the industry to learn from”.
The Huntingdon-based designers and manufacturers of packaging – who have a number of key clients in Scotland – said that, through consultation with employees and an engagement survey, the company developed a programme to develop a code of conduct to benefit all staff. The Charpak Charter embodies a set of values and standards threaded through the organisation.
Judges also commended Charpak’s “effective and multi-faceted approach”, stating that “the engagement level was clear and your impact deserves recognition”.
The family-owned business produces thermo-formed rigid plastic packaging and has seen its workforce grow by 20% in the last year. Charpak specialises in supplying food manufacturers for own label, FMCG brands, grocery retailers and providing protective packaging and manufacturing solutions for the automotive, pharmaceutical and medical sectors.
Managing director Paul Smith said, “We are thrilled to announce Charpak has been recognised for its commitment to people and the development of our business culture.”
Consultant Peter Lewis added, “Without a doubt, the morale, atmosphere and culture within Charpak has been considerably enhanced on the back of living a culture of integrity, and we continue to strive on improving this, fully embedded throughout the company with all our valued employees.”
Charpak’s technical director Gary Smith commented, “We feel proud to have achieved what we started out to do – to build a family-feel collective of individuals, that support and encourage each other to perform to the best of their ability whilst being the happiest they can be.”
