AS reported in Modern Farmer in September, a Japanese twitter user (@WadaitTweet) has shared an unusual sighting from the frozen section of the local grocery store: A shrink-wrapped whole suckling pig.
It’s a culinary item you don’t normally expect to be able to sling under your arm and take to the shop counter. But then a sharp intake of breath seems on the cards once you look at the price tag: 30000 Yen (about £177).
It’s an unusual sight on restaurant menus too. At the St John Smithfield restaurant in London’s Spitalfields a whole roast suckling pig will set you back £360. But you have to give a week’s notice and pay in advance.
