ENVIRONMENTAL solutions company Veolia has announced a new alliance with packaging data specialist Ecoveritas to integrate data solutions into an ‘all-in-one’ compliance scheme designed to stay ahead of policy and regulatory changes.

This alliance will see Veolia’s Packaging Compliance Scheme benefit from Ecoveritas’s integrated data with audit-ready reporting systems, data aggregation and validation.

Veolia revealed it will be able to offer a ‘unique’ compliance solution, backed by Ecoveritas’s 25-year strong service in key policy and compliance areas such as pEPR, Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment and Plastic Packaging Tax.

The alliance will assist Veolia scheme members across a variety of sectors, analysing their packaging data to help ensure their reporting produces the correct obligations and costs.

Pascal Hauret, chief operating officer, commercial and municipal, Veolia UK, said, “At Veolia, we are constantly looking for new ways to help improve and instil accountability into the industries we work in. Compliance is an essential part of this and so this alliance with Ecoveritas to bring their data-driven expertise to our client base made complete sense and stands to benefit all our compliance scheme members.

“The evolving pEPR policy landscape and increased costs associated with the evolution of RAM can be both daunting and costly for those businesses who fall short. This alliance enables Veolia to deliver industry-leading compliance support for our members, helping them keep environmental security a priority while maintaining full regulatory compliance.”

James Walkerdine, MD of Ecoveritas, added, “This alliance brings together our packaging data expertise with Veolia’s expertise in waste and producer compliance, doubling the support available to help producers navigate the rules effectively. Although much anticipated, the first EPR invoices have come as a shock to many producers. There’s a general lack of understanding across industry about the risks and opportunities EPR presents.

“British manufacturers and retailers face a significant compliance challenge. If they fail to get a grip on their new responsibilities, they could end up paying more than they owe, pressure that will inevitably be passed on to consumers. This alliance will help businesses tackle that challenge for the foreseeable future.”
