A fully automated packaging line has helped the producer of a specialist wood oil product to ramp up production of online sales.
Rainbow Chalk Markers Ltd, maker of Rubio Monocoat, recently invested in new packaging capability from Yorkshire Packaging Systems (YPS).
“Our growing online sales were putting a strain on our manual packing operation, so we needed to find a higher speed process,” explained Richard Geddes, MD – paint at Rainbow Chalk Markers Ltd. “Our new line from YPS is exactly what we were looking for and is proving its worth with fast, consistent packing every day.”
A consistent shrink-wrapping operation was vital to Rainbow Chalk Markers to enable the business to conform with Amazon’s strict guidelines relating to the sale of liquids. Liquids must be fully wrapped prior to despatch to ensure no leakage in transit.
As well as providing a fully sealed product wrap, the new shrink-wrapping line is said to deliver the protection needed at a ‘fraction of the cost’ of the company’s previous solution. Previously, grip seal bags were used, which not only used more expensive consumables but was also more time and resource consuming, as each seal needs to be closed by hand once the product has been inserted.
Rainbow Chalk Marker is selling pots of two litres and below from its online store. The faster packaging speeds and higher throughput the new line affords allows the business to keep pace with current demand and prepare for further growth in the future.
The solution supplied by YPS comprised a complete packaging line, featuring a Pratika fully automatic L-sealer, shrink heat tunnel and both infeed and outfeed conveyors. The L-sealer is designed for very high speeds without operator intervention and is also suited for smaller packs, with the inclusion of a kissing conveyor.
