Boom time for fibre-based punnet innovation

Fibre-based grape packaging

PACKAGING manufacturer Paranova has teamed up with fresh produce supplier AMFresh to launch around one million packs of its new BOOMBITES grapes in fibre-based punnets.

Part of the company’s FibreFresh HeatSeal range, the punnet has been developed as an alternative to traditional plastic formats.

Engineered to help maintain freshness through specialist respiration and transpiration management, the punnet is described as delivering ‘excellent’ machinability and compatibility with existing packing lines.

Following the introduction of the FibreFresh HeatSeal Punnet in the tomato category, the BOOMBITES launch represents the format’s expansion into grapes, demonstrating its flexibility across fresh produce applications.

Michael Conway, chief commercial officer at Paranova, said, “Producing nearly one million FibreFresh HeatSeal Punnets for the BOOMBITES grape launch is a significant milestone for Paranova and demonstrates how quickly our FibreFresh range is gaining momentum across the fresh produce sector. This project showcases the versatility of the FibreFresh HeatSeal Punnet and how it can be successfully adapted for new produce categories while delivering the quality, performance and shelf appeal expected by both retailers and consumers. It’s another example of how we’re helping customers make the transition to fibre-based packaging at scale.”
