THE Metal Packaging Manufacturers Association (MPMA) has highlighted the role of metal packaging as a powerful platform for creativity, consumer engagement and brand differentiation, after ten packs were shortlisted across the MPMA-sponsored categories of the UK Packaging Awards 2026.
From colour-changing cans and limited-edition heritage designs to bespoke containers and premium decorative closures, this year’s Metal Pack of the Year finalists show the versatility of metal packaging across food, drink, gifting, beauty and lifestyle markets.
Jason Galley, director and dhief executive of the MPMA and UK Packaging Awards judge, said, “The UK Packaging Awards celebrate innovation and creativity and this year’s Metal Pack finalists are showing just how metal packaging continues to push boundaries. Whether through striking graphics, premium finishes or clever functionality, these packs are a strong representation of how aluminium and steel are helping brands create stronger relationships with consumers and delivering outstanding performance.
“A number of clear themes emerged from this year’s entries. Storytelling and brand heritage are being used to create deeper emotional connections with consumers, while limited-edition and collectible formats are turning packs into collectables that extend engagement well beyond the point of purchase. At the same time, brands are harnessing the visual and tactile qualities of metal to create premium designs that stand out on shelf and support commercial success.
“Celebrating metal packaging through these awards is a real highlight for the MPMA. Aluminium and steel provide a dynamic canvas for brands to make their mark but at the same time the use of metal and its exceptional recyclability and permanent material status enables brands to truly support circular economy goals. It’s a win-win.”
