A4 Labels has introduced its new Ocean Action Labels range, made using ocean-bound plastic to provide brands with a way to reduce reliance on virgin fossil-based materials while helping tackle marine plastic pollution.
The range uses ocean-bound plastic waste at high risk of reaching the sea from coastal areas with poor or non-existent waste management, as the basis for its label material.
The range includes white and clear top-coated PP film made from chemically recycled ocean-bound plastic and is described as suitable for demanding applications such as food and cosmetics packaging.
Because the solution is chemically recycled, A4 explained that it holds the same performance qualities as virgin PP film, meaning brands can increase the recycled content of packaging without altering their existing labelling processes or equipment.
The launch builds on the company’s existing sustainability commitments, including its Eco-Pledge partnership with Seven Clean Seas. To date, the partnership with Seven Clean Seas is said to have supported the removal of 4,231kg of plastic waste from the ocean and cleaned 29,154 metres of Indonesian coastline.
