Metsä Board has again been included in the Financial Times Europe’s Climate Leaders ranking, which highlights European businesses that have made the most progress in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensity.

The list identifies companies that have achieved reductions in their GHG emissions intensity over a multi‑year period, alongside meeting additional criteria related to transparency and climate commitments.

Metsä Board recently updated its near‑term emissions reduction targets, which have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in line with limiting global warming to 1.5°C. The updated targets are said to reinforce the firm’s aim to phase out the use of fossil energy in production and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions both from its own operations and across the value chain.

“Being recognised once again on the Financial Times Climate Leaders list reflects the direction we have taken in setting science‑based targets and focusing on concrete actions to reduce GHG emissions,” said Esa Kaikkonen, CEO of Metsä Board.
