MM Packaging Deeside has announced the appointment of Dave Whitworth as its new MD.
Dave was previously operations director at the cartonboard specialist, and his appointment has been described as providing the business with continuity and stability as it continues to drive for growth.
Dave began his management career at Metal Box before joining Oldham-based Ribble Packaging as a shift manager, later progressing to production manager. Following a spell as operations manager at TRM, he joined MM Packaging as operations director in 2018.
During his time at the firm, MM Packaging said Dave has led a number of initiatives, placing health and safety at the centre of operations. He also played a key role in developing the current Deeside facility and overseeing the move from the previous site.
“I’m delighted to now be leading the team at Deeside and I am confident the business will continue to grow, building on the strong foundations of the people and processes we have in place,” Dave said. “At MM Packaging, we go beyond providing standard cartons, and it’s important that we remain inventive and innovative in an ever-changing packaging landscape. That’s why we will continue to invest in new equipment and maintain our strategy of developing talent.”
One of the company’s success stories has been its apprenticeship scheme. Dave was instrumental in its launch and remains committed to giving talented individuals the opportunity to forge a clear career path in the packaging industry.
Supported by the BPIF, MM Packaging offers a three-year apprenticeship in manufacturing. Last year, the business welcomed seven new apprentices to the business.
Dave added, “I’ve always felt strongly that the manufacturing sector can provide people with an excellent career and valuable life skills. The packaging industry has so much to offer, and by delivering a varied and extensive programme for apprentices, MM Packaging is playing an important role in building skills within our industry.”
