FLEXIBLE packaging manufacturer Coveris has announced it is strengthening its production capabilities in central and eastern Europe through investments of €1.8 million in its two Polish manufacturing plants.
The purchase of new machinery and technology is designed to expand capacity, increase production speed, and enhance consumer functionality across its packaging portfolio for food, pet food and personal care sectors.
“Strategic investment in technology is key to how we grow and support our customers. By strengthening our operations in Poland, we are expanding capacity, increasing flexibility and delivering the speed and quality our customers need to compete in fast-moving markets,” said Christian Kolarik, CEO of Coveris.
Coveris has installed a SOMA Proxima high-speed printing press, enabling mainstream wide web applications to run at speeds of up to 400 metres per minute. As well as increasing capacity by approximately 30% annually, the investment is said to deliver ‘faster turnaround times, consistent high-quality print and greater operational efficiency for high-volume packaging formats’.
The firm has also invested in a LEMO bag-making machine producing wicketted bags in sizes from 230 to 380mm. Processing CPP, LDPE and HDPE films, the new line can manufacture up to 550 bags per minute.
Coveris has also introduced laser scoring technology for flexible packaging formats such as stand-up pouches and flat-bottom bags.
