TRIBUTES have been paid to Marian Baker, co-founder of Baker Labels, who has passed away at the age of 89.
Together with her husband Roy, Marian founded the business in 1973, starting out as a venture in a small factory in Vale Royal, near King’s Cross. Baker Labels said the values that shape the company – caring for staff, supporting the community, and building honest, long-lasting business relationships – were established by Roy and Marian from the very beginning.
Known for her warmth, kindness and sharp mind, Marian is said to have kept meticulous handwritten sales ledgers and accounts during the company’s early years. Even after retiring, she remained a close friend to many of the team, staying deeply interested in the business and its progress.
Marian was enormously proud of how Baker Labels has grown under the leadership of her son Steve, and equally delighted to see grandsons Harry and Tom become part of the next generation carrying the business into the future.
In February 2020, Marian officially opened BakPac with a ceremonial ribbon cutting. On her visit to the BakPac factory last year, she was thrilled with the progress the team had made and often said how proud Roy would have been to see how far the company had come.

Baker Labels said, “Marian was not just our co-founder; she was a matriarch of the Baker family – at home and within the business. Her influence is woven into our culture, our relationships, and the way we look after one another. Her legacy will continue through every member of staff who feels valued here, every customer who trusts us, and every charity we are able to support.
“She will be greatly missed by everyone at Baker Labels, BakPac and Baker Materials, who had the privilege of knowing her. Our love and condolences are with Steve, Harry, Tom and the entire Baker family at this difficult time. Thank you, Marian – for the foundations you built, the values you instilled, and the legacy that will carry forward for generations.”
