BURY St Edmunds-based Denny Bros has said that it is ‘hugely proud’ to be celebrating its 80th anniversary.

The company was launched after brothers, Russell and Douglas Denny, were asked if they could print tickets for a dance event in 1945, leading to the company being launched.

One of their earliest customers in the late 1940s was the owners of the West Suffolk Greyhound Stadium in Spring Lane, Bury St Edmunds, who asked Russell and Douglas whether they could print 1,000 programmes in time for a meeting the next day.

The brothers worked all night to meet the deadline – a work ethic that led to them producing two programmes a week for the stadium for the next 20 years. These principles of flexibility, customer care, and innovation still resonate within every aspect of the Denny Bros Group today, according to MD Graham Denny.

Mr Denny said, “We are hugely proud to be celebrating our 80th anniversary and the success of the company is testimony to the hard work and loyalty of all our staff, now and throughout the years.

“We are equally proud to have our head office in Bury St Edmunds and have all 10 companies within the Denny Bros Group based in the county.”

Denny Bros pioneered the original multi-page label in the 1970s and have not stop innovating since.

Asked about the success of the business, Mr Denny points to the loyalty of staff – many of whom have worked for Denny Bros for 20-plus years.

This loyalty was acknowledged when Denny Bros opted to become employee-owned in 2021, to further safeguard the future of the business and ensure staff play a key role in the future direction.

Alongside business acumen, Denny Bros has long been an environmental champion – with Suffolk Carbon Charter Gold status and a major solar panel project completed at their head office in Kempson Way among many of the sustainability success stories.

Mr Denny continued, “We are very proud of our environmental credentials which run through every aspect of the business.

“The vast majority of our staff live in and around Bury St Edmunds so we think it is crucial to give something back to them and our community.”
