DS Smith has announced a collaboration with the Matas Group, a Danish-based company with a portfolio of health, beauty, and pharmacy stores and other brands in the wellbeing sector.
The companies have introduced the paper-based Wavebag envelopes as a sustainable solution for e-commerce customers to provide protection for fragile goods including beauty products, sunglasses, and pharmaceuticals during transportation.
The Wavebag envelopes are a replacement for Matas’s previous packaging that was dependent on plastic bubble wrap and the product is lined with padding comprised of corrugated cardboard to safeguard delicate items from shocks and vibrations.
Brian Fohns, account manager, DS Smith, said, “These envelopes are being used to replace the bubble-wrap padding that Matas depended upon so heavily with their previous packaging solution for e-commerce customers. We are thrilled to be working with the Matas Group and helping them to further their sustainability and circular economy goals.”
Brian Gøbel Poulsen, director of supply chain & operations, Matas, added, “The Wavebag is an excellent alternative to our previous bubble wrap packaging solution and our customers are responding very positively. The envelopes are lightweight and easy to dispose of in recycling collections. In addition, we are assured that our products are well-protected and will arrive safely. We are delighted to be working in partnership with DS Smith.”
The Matas Group operates around 263 stores across Denmark alongside its e-commerce and online outlets.
