PROTECTIVE packaging specialist Macfarlane Group PLC has announced the business has reduced its overall carbon emissions by 32% over the last five years.

The figure was revealed in the firm’s 2024 Sustainability Report, which highlights the measures that are being taken and the progress has been made in delivering Macfarlane’s sustainability strategy.

Additionally, there has been a 44% reduction in carbon intensity since 2019. Nine fully electric trucks have been added to the commercial delivery fleet (up from five in 2023), while 42% of the company car fleet is now electric.

Macfarlane also revealed that over 350 hours of sustainability training has been provided to customers, and the company’s two packaging labs are helping customers reduce the environmental impact of their packaging, supporting more than 360 projects.

The report also highlighted improvement in the group’s customer net promotor score to 62 (2023: 60), and that 40% of Macfarlane’s directors and a third of the senior leadership team are female.

David Patton, Macfarlane Group’s head of sustainability, said, “We are pleased to be able to report further progress against a range of important sustainability metrics and continue our sustainability support to customers during the year. Across the group we remain committed to investing and taking demonstrable action across this agenda while also being alert to the transition challenges ahead.
