CARTON manufacturer Falconer has announced the switch to a four-day working week for its team.
The firm explained that the new model allows team members to condense their hours into four days while ensuring uninterrupted customer service and production. All departments will remain operational Monday to Friday.
The move was inspired by MD Richard Martin’s personal experience with a four-day schedule, which he has followed for several years.
He said, “After working a four-day week and experiencing first-hand the benefits of a better work-life balance, I wanted to extend that opportunity to the rest of the team. It’s a commercial decision grounded in putting people first. We believe that happier, more focused employees lead to stronger business outcomes and early signs already support that thinking.”
So far, Falconer revealed around half of its workforce have opted into the new pattern, with many others interested in transitioning soon. The system aims to provide flexibility while maintaining operational resilience.
Employee feedback has been described as ‘overwhelmingly positive’ so far, with staff reporting greater focus, improved energy, and more time for family, hobbies, or to recharge.
“The primary aim has always been to give our people the option of a healthier work-life balance,” Martin added. “However, we also view this as an opportunity to position ourselves more attractively in a competitive job market. It’s a strong message to future recruits and a meaningful way to retain the talented people we already have.”
