Coveris tackles retail theft with security tech on carton packaging

PACKAGING manufacturer Coveris has announced an extension of its built-in, covert security solutions offer to now include printed cartons, with the aim of tackling theft in the fresh meat, beverage, and luxury goods sectors.

Targeting high levels of retail theft in the UK, Coveris has introduced its new SourceTag cartons. As an extension of the firm’s existing label-tag offering, fully-automated, integrated security cartons work with in-store electronic article surveillance (EAS) antenna systems as an anti-theft solution and deterrent.

Unlike previous solutions that require secondary tagging to be hand applied in store, Coveris said its new SourceTag cartons enable the integration of a covert RF (radio frequency) tag, applied to the inside of the carton during the existing print and conversion process.

Nigel Hewitt, Coveris paper business unit sales director, said, “We’re thrilled to introduce a first-to-market, scalable security solution for board. Delivering huge benefits at source and in-store, this innovation not only safeguards profits and the supply chain but also enhances shopworker safety by deterring theft, abuse, and violent behaviour.”
