Smurfit Westrock sponsors Edinburgh group’s poignant cycle charity challenge

Doddie’s Grand Tour

SMURFIT Westrock has announced a platinum corporate sponsorship of the Edinburgh Accies Hasbeens team as the group embarks on a gruelling adventure in tribute to their late friend and rugby legend, Doddie Weir.

The Accies Hasbeens team of ‘rugby has-beens and cycling enthusiasts’ is preparing to take part in the Doddie’s Grand Tour 2025 to raise money for motor neurone disease (MND) research.

The event will see the group cycle 700 miles across Scotland in just four days, ending their feat in Edinburgh on Saturday, 8th February.

MND is a life-shortening neurological condition that affects the motor neurons of the nervous system. The condition robs individuals of their ability to walk, speak and eat. Six people are diagnosed with MND every day in the UK, with up to 5,000 adults being affected at any one time. There is still no cure, making the fundraising efforts of the Accies Hasbeens and the Doddie’s Grand Tour 2025 extremely important.

Eddie Fellows, CEO of Smurfit Westrock UK & Ireland, said, “We are proud to sponsor the Edinburgh Accies Hasbeens cycling team as they ride in support of the fight against Motor Neurone Disease. Any sponsorship amount, no matter how big or small fuels hope, unity, and the drive to make every mile matter in this critical cause.”
