Automated packaging line makes fast impression on logistics specialist

A ‘super-fast’ automated packaging line is reportedly delivering significant production increases to a global logistics solutions provider, just two weeks after it was ordered.

Following the initial enquiry from the customer, supplier Yorkshire Packaging Systems (YPS) revealed it provided a demonstration of the proposed new system at its dedicated automated packaging showroom. The customer’s team could see exactly how the line would work with their products and understand the range of benefits the machinery would bring.

An order was placed for a Pratika automatic l-sealer and shrink tunnel and the equipment was delivered, installed and commissioned by YPS’ engineers two weeks later.

The new packaging line is employed in the packing of medical testing kits destined for four major retailers.

Previously, the company had used a semi-automatic packing system which YPS said was too slow for the current workload. The new line automates the entire process, so that no operator is required. This allows the packaging system to achieve a throughput of 2,000 units per hour.

YPS added that the speed is achieved largely by the servo-driven sealing jaw, which creates ‘very precise’ movement as the products are packed. The machine automatically adjusts for different products via pre-programmed recipes.

“We were able to get this customer swiftly up and running with their new packaging system, so that they could start enjoying their increased production speed as soon as possible,” said YPS MD Glyn Johnson. “Feedback from them has been extremely positive and it’s a pleasure to assist them in achieving their current packaging goals.”
