Xaar looks to inspire next generation of engineers

Xaar STEM day

XAAR has continued its partnership with schools and colleges after team members visited Alconbury COE Primary School for its recent Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) event.

Engaging 27 Year 6 students with hands-on activities, the Xaar STEM team assisted in building a balloon car – aka the ‘XaarCar’ – to help the pupils learn about some of the principles of engineering. The day culminated in a race, where the winner received a 3D printed trophy from Xaar.

Hoping to inspire the next generation of engineers, the event was an opportunity to see how Xaar, a specialist in inkjet, is using science and technology to develop products and the importance of STEM subjects to its business.

It was the STEM team’s second year running visiting the school. Xaar is dedicated to enhancing awareness of potential careers within the company by engaging with schools and this initiative is a component of the company’s Sustainability Roadmap.

Helen Clifton, learning & development manager at Xaar, explained, “It was amazing to go back to Alconbury COE Primary School and to be part of such a fun and insightful day for the students. We try to do as much as possible in the local area to find the engineers of the future. STEM related careers are key to our industry’s future. We hope that the event has inspired some of the young people by highlighting the many exciting opportunities.”
