Smart technology to be key focus of PPMA Show 2024

ORGANISERS of the 2024 PPMA Show have revealed that this year’s event will focus on encouraging a far greater adoption of smart technology by the UK manufacturing industry.

Preparations for the exhibition, due to be held at the NEC in Birmingham from September 24-26, are underway. The event will see over 300 brands showcase their processing equipment, packaging machinery, industrial robots and machine vision systems to an expected audience of over 8,000 visitors.

Organisers Automate UK said that while smart technology has been around for some time, the UK adoption rates are ‘lagging behind’ some other nations and impacting upon competitiveness.

Smart technology is tipped to deliver benefits including greater operational efficiency, improved product quality, and better decision-making.

PPMA Show exhibitors include ULMA, PFM, Ishida, WestRock, Reiser, GEA, Autopack, Coveya, and Beckhoff. The seminar content will feature industry experts including Janet Bellamy (National Centre for Food Manufacturing, Lincoln University); Paul Moss (Intergage Marketing Engineers); and Richard Allen (Mitshubishi Electric).

The UK Automation Forum will explore the topic of ‘What would make UK food businesses adopt more robots?’ Representatives from the food industry will join the panel to discuss the impact that adopting automation can have on the sector, whilst sharing tips and learnings.
