HYDROPAC, a provider of temperature-controlled packaging solutions, has announced it is taking steps to improve pet food cold chain logistics with its ice pack sealing technology.
Temperature-controlled shipping helps ensure nutritional integrity, prevents spoilage and maintains the product quality of pet food during transportation, especially for goods that are sensitive to temperature fluctuations.
Hydropac said it hopes the cold chain challenges faced by manufacturers and distributors of pet food can be addressed with its ice packs that are said to offer ‘enhanced insulation, extended cooling duration, and improved leak resistance’.
While conventional manufacturing techniques involve creating ice packs in tube forms and filling them with liquid, Hydropac explained that its ice pack process brings two layers of material together. All four sides of the ice pack are then sealed, allowing multiple pockets to be created within each ice pack, providing control over dimensions, including length and width.
Hydropac added that, unlike conventional ice packs where certain areas might become excessively cold while others remain warmer, the ice pack design ensures products are evenly chilled, so the desired temperature range is consistently maintained.
Cat Mitton, Hydropac’s customer experience manager, said, “Our innovation in ice pack sealing technology is designed to address the specific challenges faced by the many industries that rely on quality and efficient cold chain transportation. With pet owners increasingly prioritising the health and well-being of their furry companions, it’s crucial for the pet food industry to uphold stringent standards in product safety and quality assurance and this includes transportation and packaging.
“We aim to set a new standard for reliability, quality, and efficiency in pet food cold chain logistics.”
Hydropac’s ice pack sealing technology is compatible with a range of packaging formats and can be customised to meet the requirements of pet food manufacturers and distributors.
