PROTECTIVE packaging specialist Macfarlane Group has announced it has joined the UN Global Compact, underlining the company’s commitment to helping create a ‘safer and more sustainable’ world.

The UN Global Compact is a corporate sustainability initiative which represents an undertaking made by businesses, civil society and public bodies to align their strategies and operations with its Ten Principles on human rights, employment, the environment and anti-corruption.

The voluntary leadership platform has attracted over 24,000 companies of all sizes, representing nearly every sector in more than 160 countries across the globe.

Peter Atkinson, chief executive of Macfarlane Group, explained, “Joining the UN Global Compact is an important initiative for Macfarlane Group. Across our business we are committed to its Ten Principles and contributing to the achievement of its sustainable development goals of ending extreme poverty, fighting inequality and protecting our planet.”

David Patton, head of sustainability at Macfarlane, added, “How companies behave and the measures they take to address their broader responsibilities are becoming increasingly important to both shareholders and customers alike. We are pleased that the UN has recognised our progress to date and our ongoing commitment to this agenda. We look forward to working with like-minded businesses within the Compact, to help create a better future.”
