Sustainable packaging switch pays off for bathroom brassware specialist

VADO, a bathroom brassware manufacturer, has revamped its packaging solutions in a bid to streamline processes and maximise efficiencies to realise a more sustainable warehouse solution.

During the pandemic, the implementation of social distancing proved difficult, leading to reduced productivity. Following an internal review, some of the company’s inefficiencies were identified as originating in the packing area.

Working with packaging provider Protega, staff at VADO redesigned the packing requirements in one area. Bench capacity was increased by 37% and individual stations created to improve focus areas and staff output, reduce errors, reduce manual handling injuries and contain all.

The packaging is now recycled, recyclable, FSC-certified, and sourced in the UK. The subsequent reduction in carbon emissions is also part of the company’s continuous improvement plan.

Since implementing the Protega solutions, VADO has reportedly seen a reduction in paper usage of 27%, while the ergonomic design has helped reduce excess activity, leading to an annual saving of 527 man hours.

Protega supplies packaging solutions for e-commerce companies and manufacturers or distributors sending out items on a daily basis. The firm explained that peak periods in the bathroom sector are a little unpredictable, and this new design allows VADO scope to be flexible when orders fluctuate.
