BERRY BPI has confirmed the intention to close its manufacturing facility in Greenock with the likely loss of up to 65 jobs.
The company revealed it has seen reduced demand from a number of its sectors at the site, which supplies markets including construction, industrial packaging and healthcare.
Berry BPI added that it is widely reported in the press that activity in these markets is reduced and this has affected activity levels at the site. As a result, the firm said it ‘regrettably’ has had to announce a number of possible redundancies.
Along with its manufacturing facility, BPI operates a financial shared service centre and head office admin from its Greenock site. The company added that these functions will be unaffected by these proposed changes.
Redundancy consultation has begun with employee representatives, with Berry BPI stating that the firm will endeavour, where possible, to find suitable alternative employment for staff either within or outside the Berry Group.
