COVERIS and Notpla have been announced as the winners of the Environmental & Sustainability Award at The British Sandwich and Food to Go Industry Awards (the Sammies).
Recognising the efforts being made to reduce the industry’s impact on the environment, Coveris and Notpla were awarded the Sammies’ prestigious Environmental & Sustainability Award for Notpla coated food cartons.
With aligning sustainability commitments to reduce waste, Coveris and Notpla have worked together to create a range of printed and food-contact approved food cartons that use Notpla’s award-winning barrier coating.
Made from seaweed and plant extracts, Notpla coating is applied to sustainably sourced board and naturally breaks down in 4-6 weeks at end of life. Addressing packaging and food waste challenges in the food-to-go and takeaway sector, Notpla coated food cartons are said to provide a range of protective and recyclable solutions.
Paul Robertson, Coveris’ food-on-the-move sales director, commented, “Coveris is extremely proud to win the prestigious and highly competitive Environmental & Sustainability Award at the Sammies. It was an honour to be chosen as a partner by Notpla to address packaging and food waste challenges within the food-to-go and takeaway sector, providing an alternative to plastic packaging.
“Working extensively with Notpla, this award recognises their incredible innovation and aligns with Coveris’ vision of No Waste. Further kudos is extended to the production team at our Coveris St Neots manufacturing site, who has made significant developments in the conversion process for Notpla’s range of food cartons.”
