Antalis to sponsor student packaging design competition

ANTALIS is teaming up again this year with Brief Cases, who link business and education, to present the ‘Smart Packaging: Confectionery Sector’ competition, in collaboration with Norwich University of the Arts

The competition, which is being sponsored by Antalis for the third consecutive year, aims to educate, engage and support the next generation of packaging designers.

This year’s brief invites students from Norwich University of the Arts to create a ‘prestigious’ piece of packaging, presented as special edition gift for an occasion such as Christmas or Valentine’s Day.

Students are asked to explore how to create standout on the shelf; how to reflect luxury in the packaging design; and how to communicate a message of sustainability through the packaging concept.

50 students have already signed up to take part. Judging will take place by a panel of industry experts, with the winners revealed in September.

Alongside this brief, designers at Antalis’ Smart Packaging Centre are currently working on a real-life customer project to produce premium packaging for luxury chocolates. The sharing of such knowledge and ideas has enabled insight for the students as part of the interim critiques, where Steve Chappell, graphical board development manager at Antalis, was on-hand to see how the students’ designs were progressing and to offer guidance and support.

He said, “The last two competitions we have sponsored have revealed the incredible talent coming through from education into the industry. It has been very exciting to see the varied responses to the previous briefs – smart luxury packaging for the drinks sector and for the cosmetics sector – and from what I’ve seen so far, this year will be just as exciting.”
