Dalkeith business invests in flexographic label press

DALKEITH-based NSD Labels has invested in an FL3 eight-colour flexographic label press from Edale.

The press has been configured to specific NSDs requirements and comes with a turnbar rail
system, rail-mounted cold foil, and lamination module.

Other features include a fully autonomous camera register system, EZ die cutter, and a break-free waste matrix. NSD has customised further with UV LED curing technology, crossover module, extra die cutter and screen unit.

Chris Hogarth, MD of NSD, said, “In early 2020, we had discussions with Edale about a new press. Ultimately, we decided to invest in more specialised finishing equipment; however, we had productive discussions with Edale and very successful trials.

“We knew of Edale as they are well known in the flexo label press sector, and our industry
colleagues spoke highly of their equipment. This left us in no doubt that Edale could supply us with machinery that suited our needs well.

“In 2022, we decided it was time to reopen our flexo investment programme, and we had an easy choice in the end. Edale was very focused on giving us what we needed, and the fact that they are in the UK was also a consideration. The machines are well-engineered, proven workhorses, and we did a deal in a matter of days, all over a few online meetings.”

Louise Bailey, Edale business development manager, added, “NSD are a fantastic company with a great heritage and are highly regarded specialists in the label sector. We are very proud that they have chosen us to support their future growth.

“When we met Chris, he explained that they are a flexo and digital business and were keen to discuss what the FL3 flexographic label press could offer and how it could compliment their core offering to their growing customer base. NSD joined our virtual demonstration and we were able to showcase the technology and demonstrate how the press could provide the options they needed to reduce waste and running costs and achieve high-quality, repeatable print.”

NSD required a combination of technology and cost, with Chris Hogarth adding that, ‘pound for pound’, the firm believes the Edale FL3 is the best value machine on the market.

He said, “We look forward to a more sustainable future with our investment in LED technology and automation. This will ultimately make us more efficient and allow us to grow faster.

“It’s all about growth, and NSD is growing, so we needed to create flexible capacity to keep on the growth curve. Our acquisition will support us in printing ‘billions of labels’ for our valued customer base. We have a number of global brands in our client base, and we look forward to producing even more labels for them as we grow.”
