A new report on cocktails served in cans has been published by Can Makers, the trade body representing drinks can manufacturers in the UK.
Bar Quality Cocktails… In a Can is the third in a series of beverage reports by the organisation.
The report examines key issues facing manufacturers as well as market trends and new product development. The future of ready to drink (RTD) cocktails in a can is also considered.
The move follows the publication of two related industry reports: The Rise of Wine in a Can, and A Healthy Future for Soft Drinks, released in June and August 2022.
Simon Gresty, Can Makers chairman, explained, “In this report, we have examined the trends and factors that are shaping the RTD cocktail market and explored the ways in which this fast-moving sector is innovating as an increasing number of new and well-established brands seek to tap into a rapidly growing market.”
Can Makers added that the global RTD cocktail market has enjoyed ‘strong growth’ in recent years and in March 2020, cocktails in cans were added to the RPI basket of goods. In 2021 the global RTD cocktail market was valued at $782.8 million, and forecasts indicate the market could be worth US$ 2.43 billion by 2030.
Simon Gresty added, “Although demand for canned cocktails was already growing rapidly by 2019, the coronavirus pandemic gave a boost to the market that has propelled continuing growth. We know there were some significant changes in consumer purchasing behaviour at this time, driven not only by the closure of the hospitality industry and shift from keg to can, but by environmental concerns and the need for convenient packaging formats that could be easily recycled at home, or on the go.
“Cocktails in a can have been embraced subsequently as a sustainable, high-quality option for the environmentally conscious consumer and it is widely expected that this trend will continue as people continue to look for convenient, expertly mixed alternative to home-made options.”
The report, which examines external factors affecting the sector and trends such as the rise of nitro drinks, also includes comment from experts and brand leaders including Sam Hunt (co-founder of MOTH Drinks) and Cameron Attfield (World Class Bartender of the Year 2019).
