SAINSBURY’S has announced that it is to remove single-use lids from its own-brand dip pots in 2023.

Since 2019, the supermarket has removed single-use plastic lids from a range of products including on yoghurts, crème fraiche, sour cream, cottage cheese, and custard pots.

Dips such as guacamole, tzatziki, and sour cream and chive will be the latest to no longer have single-use plastic lids, which Sainsbury’s said will save 71 million pieces of plastic each year.

Customers will also be able to buy Sainsbury’s own-brand brandy butter without plastic lids, which the supermarket said is set to save on average 581,000 pieces of plastic this festive season.

Keeping customers in mind who would still prefer to use a lid on products at home, Sainsbury’s has also launched reusable lids which will be found in the dairy aisle alongside the products now without single-use lids.
