Family firm targeting ‘rapid’ growth after kids’ snack wins Aldi contract

A new kids’ snack which is packaged in recyclable paper packaging is targeting ‘rapid’ growth after landing a contract with Aldi.

Freddie’s Farm was launched in early 2020 by husband and wife, Charlie and Laurie Fermor, who spotted a gap in the market for healthy snacks for kids whilst shopping for their then four-year-old son, Freddie.

Fast forward to 2022, and the business has secured a contract to be stocked in Aldi after beating ‘hundreds’ of other hopefuls to be named Aldi’s Next Big Thing.

Produced at the Fermor family’s Bramley Mount Farm in Ashford, the range of no added sugar fruit shapes are packaged in 100% recyclable paper packaging, which the company said is a first for a UK kids’ snack firm.

Laurie Fermor, co-founder of Freddie’s Farm, said, “Our business idea, inspired by our taster-in-chief Freddie and now his baby sister Ottie, has come a long way in a short space of time, and recognition from a name like Aldi marks the latest exciting milestone for us. Lloyds Bank has been brilliant in helping us to accommodate an ever-increasing flow of orders, so we can focus on producing more sustainable, healthy, and delicious snacks for children to enjoy.”

Lloyds Bank supports Freddie’s Farm with an invoice factoring facility, which allows the business – which employs two factory staff – to maintain a ‘healthy’ cashflow whilst it waits for order invoices to be paid.

Gareth Source, associate director of invoice finance at Lloyds Bank, commented, “The entrepreneurship and innovation of Laurie and Charlie to bring genuinely healthy and nutritious snacks to the nation’s children makes them truly deserving of success. They are a brilliant example of South East businesses’ sustainable growth ambitions, with everything produced in the orchards and fields surrounding their family farm. We look forward to being by their side and seeing Freddie’s Farm continue to boom in the months and years ahead.”
