At the top of the Winter & Company UK agenda is sustainability and reducing their impact on the environment both locally and globally. This has seen them over the years having solar panels installed on site, planting trees locally at Hinchingbrooke Park and teams regularly going out to pick litter on the industrial estate where they’re located.

Culminating in them becoming the first business to receive Huntingdon District Council’s Community Pledge Platinum Award achieved by showing commitment to reducing waste and increasing sustainable practices. Recently, and highly significantly for them, they have become a carbon neutral site.

Areas have already been identified to make further improvements with a dedicated team constantly looking at new and innovative ways to lessen their environmental impact, becoming Carbon Neutral is just the beginning.

When it was time to choose how they wished to offset their carbon impact, they decided to support a project which will protect the forests we already have.

Pacajai REDD+ Project is based in the Amazon, the largest remaining rainforest on our planet. The project helps prevent unplanned deforestation in native forests. Through rigorous monitoring and the management of the land in the form of a ‘private conservation reserve’, stopping logging, squatting and attempts to implement pastures. The project is expected to avoid over 22 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent greenhouse gas emissions over a 40 year period. In turn helping to protect the amazing biodiversity and the home of endangered species of the Amazon rainforest.

Paul Davinson, MD of Winter UK says: “I continue to feel proud of the Winter & Company UK team, who are striving to make our site a better place, for both the team and for the environment. When becoming a Carbon Neutral site, everyone is involved, with the data initially collated for assessment and then to implement change to make further improvement. I’m excited to say we’ve only just begun and look forward to sharing further developments in the future.”

This is in line with the Winter & Company Group efforts of making their cover materials more sustainable, with now over 160 inspiring Wrup-Cycled material, their initiative to give recycled materials new life.
