UNILEVER has relaunched its Domestos core bleach range in new bottles made with 50% post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR).
The new bottles are said to use a ‘high-quality’ recycled resin to ensure the bottle is strong and durable. Furthermore, it also enables the incorporation of recycled plastic into the coloured bottles without compromising the colour and quality of the packaging.
Unilever said that the move is set to save 1,505 tonnes of virgin plastic per year, helping to further close the loop on plastic by keeping the plastic in its packaging and out of the environment.
It added that, with plastic waste ‘the top environmental concern for British shoppers’, the move to recycled plastic will be communicated to consumers via front-of-pack labelling. The labelling comes in addition to the ‘Cap On Recycle’ logo on the back of the pack, which informs shoppers that bleach bottles can be recycled.
Claire Racklyeft, home & hygiene category lead at Unilever UK & Ireland, said, “By adding recycled plastic back into our bottles we’re helping to keep plastic in packaging – where it is valuable – and out of the environment.
“This is an innovation we are very proud to share with retailers and is another great step for the cleaning aisle which helps shoppers make everyday purchases which are more sustainable.”
