Pitreavie to host event to support Lanarkshire’s manufacturing sector

PITREAVIE Packaging’s Cumbernauld base is set to host the first of six free events to help support Lanarkshire’s manufacturing sector during the month of June.

Smart Hub Lanarkshire – the centre of excellence for manufacturing innovation and robotics – has teamed up with Business Gateway to offer focused support to the industry.

The Smart Hub, which is a partnership between North Lanarkshire Council, New College Lanarkshire and the University of Strathclyde, is home to a robotics and automation training facility and a dedicated space for SMEs to meet, learn and access support and academic expertise.

The programme of six free events, entitled ‘Manufacturing Month’, begins with an event at Pitreavie’s Cumbernauld facility on Tuesday 7th June from 9.30am to 11.30am. This will highlight the importance of manufacturing to Lanarkshire’s economy.

Guest speaker Stephen Heslop, MD at Pitreavie Group, will share the company’s investment and scale-up story, and guests will also hear from Paul Sheerin (chief executive at Scottish Engineering) and Barry Skea (head of science & technology at New College Lanarkshire).

Delegates will also learn about available grant funding for capital and infrastructure projects, and join a tour of Pitreavie’s manufacturing facility.

The Manufacturing Month programme also includes:

  • Get Set to Innovate – 9th June at Smart Hub Lanarkshire. This event will help manufacturing businesses understand and embrace innovation.
  • What does sustainability and the circular economy mean for the Manufacturing Sector? – Monday 16th June. This webinar will allow businesses to assess their sustainability by challenging current practices and considering the adoption of circular business models.
  • Get hands on with Cobots for Lanarkshire manufacturers – Wednesday 22nd June. This event will demonstrate how Cobots can help automate processes in the workplace.

Barry Skea said, “Manufacturing is a key industry sector in Lanarkshire, and Smart Hub Lanarkshire is here to support SMEs in this sector to modernise, digitise and automate to improve efficiency, boost productivity and grow. The Manufacturing Month events will be invaluable for anyone within the manufacturing sector who is keen to connect and develop their business.”
