AMAZON has announced it is to use recyclable paper bags and cardboard envelopes for orders shipped from its fulfilment centres.
The firm has already stopped packing products in single-use plastic delivery bags and envelopes in its own distribution network, with the recent change meaning this will also include items sold third-party selling partners.
Customers will now receive packages in ‘flexible’ paper bags and envelopes, which Amazon said are more easily recyclable in household recycling centres across the UK. It added that they are made with more recycled content and reduce volume when compared to corrugated cardboard boxes.
John Boumphrey, UK country manager at Amazon, commented, “Customers are already receiving more deliveries in easily recyclable paper and cardboard, and we will keep innovating and finding ways to use more sustainable packaging.”
