A Finnish golf firm has launched new packaging for its golf balls which takes on a new life as an ‘insect hotel’ once empty.
The innovative creation from Golf Coat Oy came following a co-creation workshop organised by Metsä Board.
The design of the new packaging was a collaboration between an unnamed packaging design agency and Metsä Board’s packaging design team and technical service, whilst PackageMedia Oy manufactured the packaging using Metsä Board Pro FBB Bright Folding boxboard.
Once empty, the packaging can be turned into an insect hotel to provide shelter for bugs and larvae thanks to separate parts made of paperboard included in the cover.
Guinilla Nykopp, customer experience manager from Metsä Board’s packaging design team, said, “The packaging is an excellent example of how teamwork can create something totally new. In 2021 we organised 36 virtual workshops with our customers and partners. The process concentrated on improving the current package whilst creating something completely new, like this insect hotel.”
