Colpac launches single portion platters to cater for changes in shared buffet market

COLPAC has extended its platters range to incorporate two smaller, individual sized options in a bid to meet demand for hygienic alternatives to the shared buffet experience.

The firm said that buffets have largely become ‘obsolete’ post-Covid, however the shared eating experience remains an ‘integral’ element at meetings and events.

In response to this, it has launched a small (324/304mm) and an extra small (230/210mm) platter box.

The outer sleeves utilise the medium and large platter inserts to create new single portion alternatives for the platter range.

Colpac said each can hold an array of buffet style foods ideal for one to two people – from sandwiches and wraps along with savoury and sweet baked products.

They also answer to the evolution in the market for afternoon teas, well-presented room service and outdoor events such as individual picnics.

It added that the kraft material of the platters provide an artisan look and feel for the contents that is appealing to the consumer, and paperboard platters have seen a huge rise in popularity due to the ease of recycling.

The boxes are easy to assemble and are delivered flat, providing a space efficient solution that caterers/back of house teams, can construct in advance and stack ready to use, Colpac added.

Both the base and the box are manufactured from high grade paperboard to provide the rigidity required for transport and the wide window aperture on the box provides excellent visibility of the contents,

Pop-out handles on the bases allows for simple and hygienic handling without risking contamination, and the tuck end boxes provide security once the platter is filled for onward transport.

Kate Berry, head of marketing and product at Colpac, said, “Due to our agile in-house design and manufacturing capabilities, Colpac is uniquely placed to quickly create packaging solutions which meets customer needs.

“Our platters range istestament to our creativity and, the capabilities of paperboard. The addition of these two new, smaller options has enabled us to offer a solution which not only caters to demand for individual portion sizes, but a recyclable option which helps customers meet sustainable objectives.”
