Scottish haulage director triumphs in pallet pooler competition

PALLET pooler IPP has announced that David Lawson, director of haulage company Robert M Lawson, is the winner of the ‘It’s What’s Inside That Matters’ competition.

The competition, which ran alongside IPP’s campaign to raise awareness of the environmental and logistical issues presented by empty running, asked UK hauliers, retailers, and the wider supply chain to show support to prevent empty running by taking a photo with an IPP-branded item. To support the campaign, 500 free IPP branded mugs were given away and placed inside delivery vehicles nationwide.

Following the entry of a photo showing an IPP-branded lorry trailer that has been taking the ‘It’s What’s Inside That Matters’ message up and down the country in recent months, David Lawson, director at Bathgate-based haulage company Robert M Lawson, received the top prize of a 12v IPP ride-on toy lorry.

He said, “I’m proud to have supported IPP’s important industry initiative and winning a prize is a bonus. I spotted the competition taking place on LinkedIn and knew that snapping a picture of our lorry featuring IPP’s campaign message on the curtain was the perfect way to share our dedication to ending empty running.

“We have been working with IPP for over ten years and agree with what the campaign is trying to achieve, so above all else we’re pleased to help spread the word. Transporting IPP’s pallets around Scotland, we can make a difference and reach parts of the supply chain that may sometimes go unnoticed. It’s vital that likeminded companies work together to save the planet and our environment.”

Runners up were Matt Harrington, transport and logistics coordinator at S.Pammenter Engineering Services, and Darren Taylor, Biggleswade integration support at Co-op, who each won a £25 voucher to spend at Greggs.

Shelley Harris, commercial director at IPP, said, “We’d like to congratulate David, Darren and Matt on their winning entries and thank them for being part of this important campaign to help reduce inefficient and costly empty running. Maximising all empty trailers is imperative and by doing this we can significantly reduce the amount of carbon emitted and support a sustainable future, as well as improve our supply chains.

“IPP is proud to support a circular economy through our core business model of reusing and recycling pallets once they reach the end of their lifecycle and are beyond repair. We strive to spread this sustainable ethos across the rest of our business, including among supply chain partners so that the wider industry can become more efficient.”
