YPS takes on extra space following ‘explosive’ growth

YORKSHIRE Packaging Systems (YPS) has acquired an additional West Yorkshire distribution centre following ‘explosive’ growth in the past year.

The Heckmondwike site will see the scale of YPS occupied territory increase to 70,000 sq ft. The securement of this warehouse space comes just nine months after the official opening of YPS’s new HQ, showroom and distribution centre in Brighouse, West Yorkshire, after relocating from a smaller site in Dewsbury.

YPS said 2021 has been a ‘landmark’ year for the business. As well as investing in new premises, the firm unveiled a rebranded image, increased its workforce by 50%, and expanded its product range with e-commerce packaging equipment and a range of recycled content flexible films.

MD Glyn Johnson revealed that the leased Heckmondwike facility will be used as a storage and distribution site and is a ‘stop-gap’ measure to accommodate growing demand for shrink and stretch film until a suitable plot becomes available to amalgamate the business back to a single site operation.

“Heckmondwike will allow us to meet our growing demand with almost immediate effect and uphold our fantastic levels of customer service without interruption,” he explained. “Longer term we are actually on the lookout for a permanent acquisition that will take our domain up to 100,000 sq foot in total, but this site was just too good an opportunity to pass up on in the short term.”

The 20,000 sq foot distribution centre in Heckmondwike boasts a double bay warehouse space flanked by over an acre of dedicated yards and car parks. The property is a short drive from the Brighouse HQ.
