‘Ultra thin’ food packaging film scoops top award

SEALED Air is celebrating after the company’s new packaging film picked up a top accolade at the UK Packaging Awards.

The business triumphed in the Resource Efficient Pack of the Year category with the CRYOVAC Brand rBDF S10 Film. The product is described as an ‘ultra-thin’ food packaging film made using up to 30% food-grade Certified Circular Resins (CCR), which is certified by the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC).

At only 21 microns, Sealed Air said the film is a third lighter than ‘widely used’ HFFS packs and ‘three times thinner than other thermoformable films’. The product was developed to be recycled back into food-grade packaging film via a process of advanced recycling called pyrolysis.

Stephanie Poole, senior business development manager at Sealed Air, said, “At the awards ceremony, the presenter said that there had been tough competition for the category and there were three products awarded Highly Commended so we were very proud when our product was announced as the winner. This project supports Sealed Air’s pledge to design and advance our innovative packaging solutions to be 100% recyclable or reusable by 2025.”
