HIBERNIAN FC has continued its journey to becoming the ‘greenest football club in Scotland’ with the launch of bamboo shinpads.
The move follows other initiatives by the club including environmental waste controls at club facilities to reduce the amount of non-recycled waste on site, and a dedicated vegan food kiosk at their Easter Road stadium.
The new bamboo shinguards come as a result of a partnership with US-based Legend Soccer, and will be offered to both the men and women’s squads.
Hibs explained that the new shinguards will allow the club to reduce its reliance on plastic, with the ‘incredible’ properties of bamboo also enabling ‘optimal protection’ whilst weighing just 1.5 ounces.
It added that the natural anti-microbial properties of bamboo allows the product to remain odourless whilst also providing integrated rash protection.
Roland Benedict, co-founder of Legend Soccer, commented, “When the opportunity came for us to partner with Hibernian we couldn’t turn it down. A club that is steeped in football history is the perfect opportunity, to grow our brand and bring sustainable-high performance equipment to the SPFL.
“Legend is at the forefront of bringing a sustainable approach to the beautiful game. Partnering with the greenest club in Scotland was the easiest decision we have made.”
